• Winterize your Makeup Routine

With snow this past week and more on its merry way, who doesn’t want to channel their inner Elsa?  Strutting down the street with snowflakes gently nestled in your hair and a wintery glow coming from the smile that says, the cold never bothered you anyway.  Unfortunately, the harsh temperatures outside and desert-like air inside can leave you looking less like an icy princess and more like flaky snow.  Here are few things to keep in mind when it comes to your routine so you don’t have to spend the next couple of months in your ice castle.
Moisturizer is a key beauty ingredient any time of year, but when the temperature is at or below the legal drinking age, moisture is even more essential.  Remember these moisturizing musts and you should be good to go!

  • Apply your favorite body lotion from head to toe after every Your summer body creams probably won’t do the trick so switch to something a little heavier in the winter months (try: The Body Shop’s Body Butters or Lush’s Charity Pot).
  • Throw a travel size moisturizer and lip balm in your purse for re-application after washing hands or for lips, eating or long kissing sessions!
  • Exfoliate your lips with a lip scrub (or your toothbrush) often.
  • Moisturize your face day and night. Despite the darker, colder days, your daytime moisturizer should still contain SPF (or apply it separately).

If moisturizer is the number one thing you should be applying, primer is a very close second.  Moisturizer can prevent make-up from properly setting onto our skin, leaving us makeup-less or smudged way too soon.  Make-up primer seals in all the goodness underneath and provides a barrier between your freshly-moisturized skin and your makeup (and ultimately the weather).   Plus, it smooths out your skin and fills in the fine lines and wrinkles your makeup tends to seep into (which are worse in the winter).  We know it’s an extra step, but trust us, you will see a noticeable difference in how your makeup looks and lasts!  We recommend a silicone-based primer.  It’s super smooth, and applies like a dream.

Now that you have a good canvas, apply your favorite makeup as usual.  Traditional wisdom tends towards darker colors in the winter, but we suggest, for your every-day face, sticking with colors that brighten your face and highlight your natural glow.  There’s nothing like a good peachy-pink blush or lip color to chase away the winter blues and have us skipping toward spring!  Need some color palette ideas!?
