We know what it’s like to work in corporate America and feel the need to stifle our cosmetic creativity to bordering on plain vanilla (total snooze!). When it comes to one of our fave new trends, bedazzled nails, it can be tricky to figure out how to wear them in a way that is “boardroom appropriate.” So we’ve scoured the latest trends on our favorite beauty blogs and magazines and identified a few ways for you to get your nails on trend without standing out at work for all the wrong reasons. Here are the top three tips we think you should know before taking your fashionable fingers to work:

1. Less is more! Cliché we know, but especially true when considering office attire. Fabulous indeed are the totally blinged out nails of the likes of Evelyn Lozada and Shaunie O’Neal from Basketball Wives, but leave that for vacation or time away from the office. Choosing one or two nails for a little added flare will ensure your nails are not the center of attention and keep you and your colleagues focused on the task at hand (pun intended).
2. Color or bling, not both. Having fun with your nails doesn’t require any special decals, but can simply be about picking a totally fierce color. (Neons were all-the-rave this summer, Ox Blood, black and blues are popping up again this fall). If you are itching to bedazzle, choose a neutral color as the base.
3. Not too long, too square or too pointy. Pick a shape that looks natural on your hands. We recommend a shorter nail filed to a rounded square or longer nails filed to a soft oval. Nails that are too long, too square or too pointy are not a good look in any setting.
