• Busy and Beautiful: A conversation with Tracy A.

Tracy Agyemang is an attorney with the Department of Labor, Wilhelmina model and all around fierce chic! So fierce in fact, we have nicknamed her “Face” because that’s what she’s always servin’ up! We love having Tracy as a client and wanted to spend some personal time with her to figure out how she manages to slay both in the office and behind the camera; while also living a fabulous life, showering lots of love on her friends and family and always looking fierce while doing it! If she ever has a bad day, we certainly can’t tell! Here is what she had to say…

Zyn: So Tracy, we know you are super busy; what does your typical week day look like?

Tracy: I wake up at 6:00 am and spend 10-15 minutes in bed writing down things I am grateful for. It’s a great way to start my day on a positive note. Then I spend 10-15 minutes breaking a sweat. I do various types of exercise to keep it interesting and keep my body challenged. One day it’s yoga, the next it’s running, or pilates and light weights. Then I shower, get dressed, and am out the door by 8:45. When I get to work, I settle at my desk with a cup of coffee and spend a few minutes catching up on news and getting a handle on my schedule for the day. Then, I get to it! I always take a break for lunch and usually leave the office to build in walking, fresh air and time to clear my head. I try and make lunch my biggest meal of the day, so I get a salad with protein or a hearty soup and sandwich. After lunch I check with my agent to see if I have any bookings that evening. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. If I do, I arrange the rest of my day in the office to work the booking into my schedule, which usually means I need to leave the office by 5pm. If I don’t have a booking I am in the office until about 7:00 pm. I call the second half of my day the “big push”. The hours just seem to go by faster and I’m trying to get as much done as possible so my workload doesn’t start piling up on me! After work, I go home and decompress by reading a book, listening to music and/or cleaning up the mess I made in the morning [chuckles]. I usually scavenge for dinner. I don’t like to have a heavy dinner unless I’m eating out. So I usually munch on nuts and fruit and have a glass of wine. If I’m feeling inspired, I will cook a big pot of soup or stew that I can eat throughout the week. I aim to be in bed by 10 pm.

Zyn: When do you find time for your significant other?

Tracy: I think the best relationship time is before 8 am or after 8 pm. I am currently in a long distance relationship, so we chat on the phone in the morning before work or in the evening as part of my relaxation time. But whether it’s long distance or not, when you both work and are both very busy, I think the best time to connect is over breakfast or in the evening during “snuggle time”.

Zyn: What do you do for fun?

Tracy: I enjoy good libations, good friends and good conversation and debate. Preferably outdoors!

Zyn: With such a busy schedule, how do you manage to look absolutely fabulous every day!?

Tracy: It starts the night before. Having a clean face and plenty of water will take you far! If you don’t have time for make-up you won’t look dry and gaunt. For my outfits I start with my shoes and build up. I always know how I want my feet to feel, whether that’s sexy in heels, summery in strappy sandals or comfortable in flats, and the rest of my outfit just falls in line. Unless it’s a special occasion or I’m headed to a modeling gig, I’ve mastered my 10 minute day face so my make-up is consistent, flawless and a cinch. I can apply it without even thinking.

Zyn: Yes! Every woman needs a 10 minute go-to makeup look! What products are part of your 10 minute day face?

Tracy: eyeliner, mascara, brow definition and lip gloss.

Zyn: You talked about the importance of a clean face before bed. What is your face washing regimen?

Tracy: Well, first I brush my teeth because I don’t want to do that after I’ve washed my face. I use a sulfate free face wash or milk cleanser. I gently exfoliate and then moisturize. There is no real magic to it. The magic is just doing it every night.

Zyn: It goes without saying that your body is banging! What are your tricks for staying so fit!?

Tracy: Like I said earlier, I think it’s important to break a sweat for 15-20 minutes every day. I often walk most of the way to work and during lunch which accounts for another 15-20 minutes of moving. My diet tends towards paleo (restricting dairy, grains and beans, eating mainly veggies and animal protein). Homemade smoothies are my go-to way to pack in the fruit and veggies I need on-the-go. I also believe in enjoying life, so you will often find me “cheating” on my paleo diet when I’m out to dinner or brunch. I just try and use my common sense.

Zyn: With everything you have to juggle, how do you keep stress at bay?

Tracy: I am all for telling the truth and my truth is that I find that really hard to do. I often feel I’m failing at it. I think most of us feel that way. When I don’t feel like I’m failing at it, it’s because I take my moments of gratitude, and find 10-15 minutes to meditate each day (sit in a comfy position and allow a clear mind). I am also quite the jokester and prankster. I try and make light of things. You will often hear me saying to myself and others “It’s not that serious!”

Zyn: Yeah we agree, managing stress is a daily struggle for us as well. We often go with the “fake it till you make it” line of thinking. If you act happy or at ease, even if you don’t feel that way, eventually your mind and emotions will follow. So last question. What is one piece of advice you would give other women trying to balance being busy and beautiful?

Tracy: Balance is personal, so you have to find your own unique version of balance. Anything else will drive you bat $h%t crazy!

Zyn: So true Tracy! Thanks for chatting with us and we look forward to chatting again!

Tracy: Anytime doll! This was fun!
